What do they look like on the inside and out?
Beluga Whales can get up to 13-20 feet long. Thats 4- 5.2meters long! When fully grown, they are white or yellow tan.They turn white around 5 years of age. Because of that, they are often called "white whales". Beluga's have 32-40 teeth and they have lungs for breathing just like us! Did you know that they are one of the few whales that doesn't have a dorsal fin. Now you know!! Beluga Whales are toothed whales with one blowhole in the middle of the head. The Beluga has a melon that can change shape to show emotion and they can use it to focus the sound of echolocation. The head is rounded. They have thick layer of blubber and 1 row of teeth for each year if their lives. Their body temperature is always much higher than the icy water that they live in. The maximum weight that a Beluga can be is 3,500 pounds.The average weight though is 2,000- 3,000 pounds. Sometimes they are pure white sometimes times they aren't. They have a small size in comparison to other whales but are fairly big to humans. They have broad, paddle-like flippers and a notched tail.Young Belugas are born dark grey sometimes even brown! Calves are 5 feet long and weigh 170 pounds.
